Our aim is to bring the taste and exotic fun of the Philippines to Beijing and beyond. In our colourful space we offer cheerful and friendly service, Pinoy food with a contemporary edge, eclectic music and vibes.
Mesa Madre opened its doors in December 2020 as the only Filipino Cafe in Beijing. We also bake our own sourdough breads and cookies. The small shop with around twenty seats and a large colourful mural is a rare find in Guomao’s busy CBD, located at Jianwai Soho.
It all started off in 2019 when owner Gemmicah Argonza started home baking small batches of sourdough bread loaves and producing other deli items, selling on markets and doing deliveries on our bicycles across the city. The popularity of her loaves was so great that we later took the lead to open a small shop. What started as a Bakery Cafe idea with a few simple dishes ended up a full on Filipino Restaurant. Until today Mesa Madre bakes daily fresh Sourdough Bread Loaves and Cookies, both highly thought after in capital and iconic items of the restaurant.
Amongst popular Pinoy dishes such as our Chili Beef Carneretta, Chicken Bicol Express, Adobong Baboy or Ensaladang Talong we also have our own Longganisa. All our dishes are prepared fresh on a daily basis, using high quality ingredients only.
For drinks we have a curated wine list made up of old and new world wines, San Miguel beer from the Philippines and great coffee from local craft roasters DaXiao 大小, handmade on our beautiful La Cimballi espresso Machine.
When visiting us look out for the specials on the brown paper; we continuously bring new and seasonal flavours to our guests.
Update: We left China in October 2022 and moved to Hong Kong. The restaurant is now taken over by long term friend and partner Jess Chen together with the team that we build the restaurant up.
